Harvey spent 3 years in the Navy as a cook. He then came back to Kirkland Lake to be a farmer where he met his wife who was living on a farm just around the corner. They have been together for 69 years and are now sharing a room at Extendicare for which he is very thankful. Kirkland Lake is special to him because it has a great atmosphere and is a good place to raise your family. His favourite place in Kirkland Lake is KL Gold as he worked there for many years.

Nickname: Sid
Age: 88 years young
Likes: Everything saxophone
Dislikes: Nothing
After graduating from KLCVI, Sid became an electrician, and later worked at the Lakeshore Mine. Sid served on many boards and committees in Kirkland Lake including Community Living. He loves all things that have to do with the saxophone, including playing it as well as listening to it. Sid is a really happy 88 year old, but he’ll tell you he hasn’t got any older since he turned 39.

Age: 71 years young
Likes: Flying his aeroplane, motorcycles, and houses
Dislikes: Picky customers
DECADE 3
After graduating from KLCVI, Roger went straight into the business world and started working for his father Paul LaRose at his store Paul’s New and Used. In his spare time, he enjoys flying his aeroplane, driving his sports cars, driving his motorcycles, and checking out properties. Roger’s favourite childhood memory is walking downtown Kirkland Lake and seeing all the diversity. You could find someone from anywhere!

After graduating from KLCVI, Nicole entered the workforce immediately and has now been retired for 1 year. She worked as a program assistant at the Canadian Mental Health Association. If she could have any superpower in the world, she would choose to heal everyone from sickness and pain! She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and family, as they are the most important people in her life. Nicole’s favourite place in Kirkland Lake is Esker Park because it provides a peaceful atmosphere where she can enjoy all her favourite activities such as kayaking, reading, swimming and sitting by the fire.

Age: 59 years young
Likes: Sports, community involvement
Dislikes: Loud music, cell phones
Michel, also known as Mitch, was born and raised in Kirkland Lake and stayed to raise his family. He is very involved with the community, loves sports, and sings in a choir. Mitch is a very open minded person and is not quick to judge. While growing up, you could find Mitch and his friends playing baseball and hanging out at their cottages. Now his favourite place in Kirkland Lake is right at home with his two sons and his wife. "Wherever she is, essentially is my home”.

Jodi is a secondary school teacher who teaches business and math. She is also a guidance counsellor at the Kirkland Lake high school. She enjoys spending time with her family, outdoor adventures and continuing family traditions. If Jodi had one superpower, it would be to have super speed and be as productive as possible in everything she does. Her favourite place in Kirkland Lake is Kinross Pond, where she likes to walk her dogs and enjoy the outdoors.

Jamie is a very creative and artistic person. If she could meet a celebrity, she would choose to meet Leonardo Da Vinci because they would have common interests and he would have a lot to share. She enjoys any art, spending time with her kids and going to Crystal Beach. Jamie enjoys going to the duck pond as it has beautiful scenery and a calming environment. Kirkland Lake is special to her because it is where she was raised and where she holds all of her memories.

After graduating from KLDCS, Chris went to school for power engineering. He now works at the Northland Power Plant here in Kirkland Lake. Chris enjoys going on hunting and fishing trips with family and friends, but if he could, he would have Jim Shockey as his hunting partner. His favourite place in Kirkland Lake is at home with his two dogs. Kirkland Lake is special to Chris because it is where he, his friends and family grew up and created unforgettable memories.

After graduating from high school, Rachel wants to pursue medicine to become either a surgeon or a vet. Rachel enjoys walking around town and playing outside with her siblings and her 2 dogs. She would choose to meet Dwayne Johnson over other celebrities because she looks up to him and appreciates how hard he’s worked to get to where he is. Rachel spends her weekends with her friends and family camping, playing outside, swimming, and making crafts.

Penny is a creative and fun person. In the future, she would like to be an artist and maybe do some acting. She likes to spend her weekend going on adventures and finding new experiences with her friends or family. You could find her at home playing with her little sister and her neighbour. She loves going to Giant Tiger, her favourite place in Kirkland Lake. Penny would choose to have The Force over any superpower so she could use it to get things, like the remote to change the channel or for lifting heavy stuff like cars or the fridge.

Behind the Scenes
The Decade Project was headed up by three students in Kirkland Lake District Composite School. Gracie, Joey and Jena worked together to create a project for their Computer Technology Class to provide people the opportunity to experience the various perspectives of Kirkland Lake's residents throughout the ages.
